Radu Tîrcă and Ștefania Hîrleață are students at University of Architecture and Urbanism 'Ion Mincu', Bucharest. At present, they lead their theoretical research on the subject of thermal towns and diploma projects in Govora Baths under the guidance of Stefan Simion, Irina Tulbure and Ilinca Paun Constantinescu. As students, they won second prize and best student project in a BeeBreeders international architecture competition - Mango Vynil Hub, third prize in a Zeppelin national competition - Prototip pentru comunitate, as well as other mentions in other competitions.
The premises of an ideal city. Govora Baths
In the nineteenth century, the ideal city suddenly required remoteness, isolation from the new features of the metropolis dominated by industrialization: increased density, pollution, accelerated urban population growth and loss of the human scale of the urban territory. These desires have found echoes throughout the century through the establishment of thermal towns. Govora Baths is one of them.
Through a series of analysis of the Govora Baths, MZCH#5 calls into play the potential of the ideal city that may still be inherent in such urban structures and the architecture that composes them.
MZCH#5 is based on analysis and conclusions of an academic research carried out within the diploma projects and dissertations of students Radu Tîrcă and Ştefania Hîrleaţă under the guidance of Stefan Simion, lecturer Irina Tulbure and Ilinca Paun Constantinescu, in the academic year 2018- 2019. The research is based on documenting drawings, reveals and images of the present state of the existing built heritage in Govora Baths, a Romanian spa resort.
În secolul nouăsprezece, orașul ideal s-a definit în jurul nevoii de izolare față de noile trăsături ale metropolei dominate de industrializare: mărirea densității construite, poluare, accelelerarea creșterii populației și pierderea scării umane a teritoriului urban. Acest fapt a avut ecouri de-a lungul secolului prin construirea orașelor termale. Băile Govora reprezintă un astfel de exemplu. Printr-o serie de analize ale Băilor Govora, MZCH#5 invocă potențialul orașului ideal care este încă inerent structurilor urbane de acest tip și arhitecturii care le compune.
MZCH#5 este construit în jurul cercetărilor academice realizate în contextul proiectelor de diplomă și al dizertațiilor studenților Radu Tîrcă și Ștefania Hîrleață sub îndrumarea lui Ștefan Simion, respectiv îndrumarea Irinei Tulbure și a Ilincăi Păun Constantinescu, în anul academic 2018-2019. Cercetarea are la bază documente de arhivă și fotografii de epocă și actuale ale patrimoniului construit din Băile Govora.
